While McDonald's the corporation is a FoundationPartner, Ronald McDonald House Charities is neither owned nor fully funded by McDonald's. RMHC DC is licensed, managed and funded locally, and we depend on local support from the community to raise the majority of our budget.
Our local McDonald's owner/operators and managers are big supporters of our fundraisiing events such as the Pro-Am Golf Tournament and Red Shoe 5k Run & Walk and have several donation promotions each year in their stores, including Give a Hand Promotion in May. Since 2002, it has raised more than $170 million for RMHC and children’s charities around the world.
McDonald's customers show their support by donating change in the restaurant donation canisters, and these donations help local families. Additionally, McDonald’s supports the RMHC Global organization which provides training, support and matching funds for our local grantmaking efforts. McDonald's suppliers, such as Coca-Cola and Martin Brower are also donors to the Greater Washington Chapter of RMHC.
The RMHC Donation boxes, which can be found in all participating McDonald’s Family Restaurants, are an easy way to show your support. Drop in your spare change, and when that box fills up, it can let a family stay together at a Ronald McDonald House of Greater Washington, DC for one night while their child receives care at a nearby hospital.
