Give the Gift of Togetherness for Families with Critically-Ill Children this Holiday Season

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC (RMHC DC), your local chapter of the global non-profit that creates, finds and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children, is asking people everywhere to help keep families with critically-ill children close to each other and the medical care their child needs to heal by giving the gift of togetherness.

The old adage “home is where the heart is” particularly strikes true for families who spend the holiday season at pediatric medical facilities. That is why, each year, RMHC DC celebrates the Season of Giving from November through December by encouraging online donations at www.rmhcdc.org that can help keep families close when they need it most all year long.

Medela Recycles Program Benefits RMHC with New Breast Pumps

August is National Breastfeeding Month. This month, Medela has given us two things to celebrate! Medela introduced the program Medela Recycles to ease the stress on nursing mothers staying at Ronald McDonald House. The program is "focused on helping moms who have finished their breastfeeding journey help another mom start hers."

Every pump received through the Medela Recyles program "supports the donation of new hospital-grade, multi-use breastpumps and supplies to Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®). The goal is to provide moms with the same high-quality equipment they use at the hospital during their stay at Ronald McDonald House. This consistency will ease the transition from the hospital to Ronald McDonald House and give families caring for a baby in the NICU one less thing to worry about."

Find out how you can recycle your pump through Medela Recycles to support and comfort another mom during a challenging time.

What 35 Years of Helping Families in Need Means to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC (RMHC DC) has been blessed to be a part of the Greater Washington, DC community for 35 years. In this city, we may see a lot of political change and power players, but we're still a city rooted in American values like family, opportunity, and lending a hand to those in need.

Support from a community that holds these values dear has made it possible for us to:

  • Give families the opportunity to seek the best health care for their seriously ill or injured child, no matter how far away it is;
  • Reduce day-to-day worries on families like where their next meal will come from;
  • Provide a comforting and supportive community that understands the struggles facing families of seriously ill children.

In 35 years, we've served more than 175,000 family nights. Each family has a permanent place in our hearts. On this anniversary we celebrate our past families and we look to the needs of our future ones.
